After 4 successful years as the IADD Permian Basin Chapter, we have decided to start 2018 with a new identity and a new focus on drilling solutions that are specific to the Permian Basin.  The Permian Basin Association of Directional Drilling (PBADD) will remain an affiliated with the National IADD organization but entirely focus on the Permian Basin.

The first PBADD forum for 2018 titled “Slim Hole Solutions” was held on Wednesday February 21st at the Midland Country Club in Midland, Texas.  The event had considerable support with sponsorships from several local operators and service companies. With respect to registration, 123 people registered with 110 in attendance.  This included 36 attendees from 12 different local operators and 78 new members.

The three speaker panel represented their expertise and experiences from an Operators, Service Company and Manufacturer point of view.   Tim Smith, the North Delaware Basin Drilling Engineer Supervisor at Concho addressed the sub topic Why Slim Hole?, Scott W. Powell, the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for Sperry Drilling Motors discussed “Lateral Control vs. BHA Design” and  Mr. Jorge Rebellon, the Business Development and Applications Engineer for PV Fluid Products enlightened the audience with his presentation on “Tool Availability”.  Overall the content from these three speakers were engaging, technical and practical.

The PBADD is very excited for 2018 and this forum is just one example of timely discussions on what matters most to operators and service companies in the Permian Basin.
