Description

Well Tortuosity

High wellbore tortuosity can lead to problems such as high torque and drag, reduced hole cleaning and stuck pipe events. It can also negatively affect completion and production operations and ultimately affect well production. Therefore it is important to have a robust mechanism to measure the tortuosity of wells at they are drilled. At the University of Texas at Austin, drawing inspiration from some approaches used in the medical field, we have developed an easy to use “Tortuosity Index”. This index only uses commonly available survey data, and is a real-time index. This thereby enables well path corrections as the drilling progresses. The index is three dimensional, but can also be used independently to evaluate the tortuosity on both the azimuthal and inclination plane. This talk will introduce this very useful index, showcase some results and explore future work in this area.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Cancellation for an IADD event must be submitted in writing to info@iadd-intl.org. Cancellations requested two weeks before an event will receive a full refund less a $50.00 handling fee. For cancellations one week or less prior to the event, no refunds will be paid, although substitutions can be made at the discretion of IADD. For no shows at IADD events, no refunds will be paid.

In the unlikely case that IADD cancels an event, IADD shall not accept liability for any consequential loss and shall have no liability to reimburse any other costs that may have been incurred, including transport costs, accommodation etc. The IADD encourages delegates to take out travel insurance when making travel and accommodation arrangements.

Your Investment

All income from IADD events will be invested back into IADD to support many other IADD opportunities for industry professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.
