Discover breakthrough tehcnologies for Electro-Magnetic Measurement While Drilling.

Halliburton Sperry DrillingOPERATOR’S CHALLENGE – Cantarell-2119 heavy oil well is located offshore Mexico, water depth 46 m (150 feet), in a block bounded by faults on both the east and west, presenting challenges that include total lost circulation zones and rock with high compressive strength averaging about 35,000 to 40,000 psi. There is high risk for differential sticking, borehole instability and pack-off conditions that can result in high non-productive time (NPT), loss of geological targets and higher costs. The challenge was to optimize the drilling performance throughout the well.

Using Weatherford’s Revolution and EMpulse MWD systems allowed the operator to access zones that could not typically be logged or reached under prevailing conditions. This was the first successful use of rotary-steerable system technology using electromagnetic transmission anywhere in the world.

SharewellSharewell L.P. successfully transmited Electro-Magnetic MWD data through the highly resistive Marble Falls formation in the Barnett Shale.

  • Transmission used Sharewell’s patented Electro-Magnetic (“EM”) technology
  • Data was received through a 430 foot section of the Marble Falls at a depth of 6,533 feet
  • Project demonstrates the superior capabilities of Sharewell’s EM technology
