The presentation will be
“Advancing Web - Enabled Software To Leverage Data Into Dollars For The Drilling Industry”
Speaker: Robert Sage
Date: Thursday, February 23, 2012
Time: 11:00 -1:00pm
Location: Greenspoint Club - Houston
In the last decade, access to aggregated, real-time drilling data has become commonplace, yet most computer applications offering this feature set still provide mostly a “rear-view mirror” perspective to drilling operations problems. This presentation will explore the questions driving the future of “expert diagnosis” in the oilfield. It will also trace the evolution of integrating analytical tools into a Web-enabled software platform designed to bridge the gap from problem observation to proactive problem avoidance, and beyond. The presenter will use the example of his company’s Web-enabled drilling intervention application to illustrate how “complex event processing” (CEP) concepts, successfully used to enable instantaneous trading for Fortune 500 companies in the financial industry, have been adopted in oilfield operations. Implementing these concepts enables operators in the real-time drilling arena to:
- Integrate data from numerous vendors, in multiple formats, into a standardized, usable, bi-directional data set;
- Use automation to reduce enormous sets of raw data into meaningful samples;
- Develop sophisticated CEP rules to test hypotheses and refine reusable algorithms;
- Deploy vetted CEP rules to the field for early detection of drilling and well control issues;
- Compare wells in the same geographic regions against one another, to aid continuous improvement in drilling performance and risk management;
- Distribute meaningful samples ubiquitously, using standard Web protocols, to almost any related electronic device or 3rd-party system.
